HALLIDAYS SPORTS BOWLING CLUB

Contributor – Drew Schott

The sport of lawn bowls is alive and thriving at Hallidays Sports Bowling Club (HSBC).

The bowls club is a sub-club of the Hallidays Sports Club. Hallidays Sports Club is owned by the Wyong Leagues Group, which has approximately 13 other successful clubs under their banner.
Hallidays Sports Club is located on the hillside, just a hundred metres up the road from Black Head beach. The club has one and a half grass greens of Championship standard, with a backdrop of the ocean and eagles that soar above. It is the most idyllic place to play bowls on the Barrington Coast.

Mixed gender social bowls are played on Wednesdays and Fridays at 12.30 for 1 pm. The bowls Club Championships, Visitations and Special Events are generally played on weekends or nominated weekdays.

HSBC is always on the lookout for new members. If you are new to the area and are looking to take up a sport that suits all abilities, ages and fitness levels, bowls is for you! Maybe your cricketing, football, golf etc. career is winding down, or you are looking for a sport the whole family can play, bowls is for you! Perhaps you are an experienced bowler from another club or have never played bowls before, it does not matter either way, bowls is for you!

Social bowls with other clubs is an integral part of the HSBC’s mantra. There is a solid core of travelling bowlers from HSBC, that regularly visit other bowling clubs. Recent visits were to Bateau Bay and Charlestown Bowling Clubs, where our members spent the weekend bowling and forging lasting friendships. In 2024, our club also hosted visiting bowlers from Castle Hill, Sporties Tuncurry, and a very thirsty mob, from the Ourimbah-Lisarow Bowling Club! As always, many a fabulous time was had, and a lot of laughs with new and old friends.

Give bowls a try at the Hallidays Sports Bowling Club, you will not be disappointed. In fact, you will be guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome and free lessons, if required. For all enquiries, please contact Club President, Neville Cheetham on 0414 323 013 or Vice President, Martine Thurbon on 0410 521 994 or ask the friendly staff at the Hallidays Sports Club.
